The Iruña working group emerged during the First Meeting on the History of the Witch Hunt that took place on March 22-24 of 2019. Since then, we have continued to work and meet periodically, reflecting on how the imaginary of the “witch” has been constructed, in which historical, economic, political, and social environments it has grown and evolved, and what causes and consequences are linked to this process. We have read various texts including Tratado de brujería (Pierre Lancre), Akelarre (the special issue of Eusko Ikaskuntza’s magazine), Las brujas (Caro Baroja), La Celestina (Fernando de Rojas), ¿Vírgenes o putas? 500 años de adoctrinamiento femenino (1512-2012) (Amaia Nausia). We have had specific sessions about the witch hunt in the Pyrenees and we have a line of work focused on the representation, use, and presence that witches have historically had in movies.
